Facts are scanty and we are only going on what we can see from up above Otivar, but there is a sizeable fire on what looks to be the hillside to the north of Urbanización Alfa Mar on the N-340.
There are several air units involved including a heavy-lift helicopter with an underslung water bag (bambi) and a command light aircraft directing operations and evaluating asset deployment.
There is still nothing on the Infoca website but when more information is available we shall update this article.
Farmers were had bonfires going yesterday morning and into the evening as dusk was falling on the border between Jete and Molvízar yesterday, which defies logic given the weather conditions.
Update 13.40h: The fire broke out around 12.45h in the Paraje Cueva del Gato (on the Almuñécar/Ítrabo municipal boundary, just above the autovía between the Taramay exit junction and the first tunnel entrance heading East) requiring a deployment of two fixed-wing, water bombers, 4 helicopters for fire-crew transport also capable of deploying underslung, canvas water buckets for fire bombing, as well as a heavy-lift helicopter and a command aircraft.
On the ground there are 54 Infoca fire fighters and 2 fire engines. The Motril fire department has also units on standby should the situation require their intervention.
