Hotel Playa San Cristóbal in Almuñecar is holding an Oktoberfest on its bar terrace so that we can all enjoy a slice of Bavarian knees up.
The said hotel is the one in the square just below the Peñon del Santo and the statue of an Arab, so it’s nicely situated for a bit of beer slopping and moustache preening.
Apparently, the Oktoberfest goes back to the wedding between Crown Prince Ludwig (later to become King Ludwig I) of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in October 1810, which was held in Munich.
The last time that I personally participate in one (the beer festival not a noble, hitching ceremony) was in the autumn of 77… and I still have the hangover.
Anyway the hotel’s particular version started yesterday and ends this Sunday, lasting from noon to midnight, each evening.
Music, beer, currywurst and a quick invasion of Belgium, together with a potato salad – what could be more splendid!
