COS Dolphin SightingWe had a press release from Mike Shaw Roberts, who runs the popular boat-charter company, Sailnplay, telling us about record dolphin sightings.

According to Mike, during their outings along the coastline, they come across dolphins almost every day, adding that they haven’t seen this many in the twelve years they have been operating.

Mike says that they keep a log on sightings which has given them the following summer data: sightings per trip, 78%, which is 23% up on the previous high of 2017.

He also explained that dolphins are not territorial (unlike whales) and they basically follow fish, which they feed on. Cooler water temperatures this summer have kept the fish closer to shore, and also kept the dreaded jellyfish away, so the dolphins are still around in our local inshore waters feeding.
