Adiós Oleaje, Hola Badía

MOT Chiringuito OleajeThere has been a last minute reprieve for Chiringuito Oleaje on Playa Granada in Motril after an investor came forward with a million euros.

Councillor for Urban Development, Antonio Escámez (ring a bell?) announced barely a week ago that the doomed chiringo could not open its doors and if it did, the Policia Local would cordon it off. The owners had reopened to make some money to pay off debts, but that was nipped in the bud.

Today, however, the said chiringo will open its door under a new name,  under new management and completely refurbished.

Back in March the Town Council had overturned the operating licence of Marisquería Chill Out Swing S. L., but a legal battle broke out and the affair is being mulled over in Sevilla in the Regional Advisory Board. However, until it comes up with the goodies, the existing operating licence stands.

So, Marisquería Chill Out Swing S. L., sold the lease to another company, which has done all the changes to the layout and decoration and will inaugurate the chiringuito today.

Who is the new mysterious figure? One Martin España, who comes from Argentina.  Sr. España has been in the hostelry business for a score of years and owns the D’Platos franchise, with five premises in Granada, Málaga and Almeria. He also owns Restaurante Badía de Sierra Nevada, amongst other business ventures.

And the new name for Oleaje? it is Badía Beach Club.

Finally, it is no coincidence that the Badía Beach Club will open on the eve of the swearing in of the new Town Council, leaving out-going Councillor. Escámez too little time to act – the decision whether to permit the new occupant to run the chiringuito will be in the hands of the incoming administration.
