It’s that time of year when high-school exams are taking place across the nation; plenty of nail biting but what happened in Valencia is something else.
A 15-year-old lad stabbed his female teacher because he disagreed with the low marks she had given him. I’ll give you a moment to let that sink in…
The incident took place yesterday at the IES La Misericordia on the morning that the end-of-term, school reports were being handed out – it was 09.20h.
Suddenly, the lad got up, walked across the classroom to the teacher’s desk and stabbed her several times in the shoulder. Rather than sitting there stunned, the rest of the class started throwing chairs and other objects to make him cease his attack.
The lad, who was new to this school having only been there a few months, ran out of the classroom and made his way up onto the roof terrace where he sat perched on a ledge, threatening to throw himself off.
The Policía Nacional arrived with a negotiator to try and talk him down. Finally, the boy threw the knife down onto the ground below and gave himself up.
The victim, a Biology teacher, was rushed to the General Hospital in Valencia where her wounds were treated at the A&E Unit. Her injuries are described as serious but not life threatening.
