There was a scare yesterday in Almuñécar after a woman reported that somebody was having difficulty reaching the beach whilst paddle surfing.

The woman had sighted the young man in the area of Marina del Este. There were high winds at the time and rough seas.

The emergency services sent out the maritime-rescue vessel, Salvamar Hamal, immediately in search of the surfer, covering the area between Almuñécar and Marina del Este. Meanwhile the Policía Local started a search of their own along the beaches.

However, two hours into the search the witness withdrew her claim so the search was called off
