The Chairman of the Vespa Club Motril, Manolo Gálvez, announced that the 6th Ruta Vespa Costa Tropical will be held on the 10th & 11th.
The scooter club calculates that some 400 people will participate and around 200 scooters – scenes from Quadrophenia come to mind!
The Councillor for Citizen Safety, María Ángeles Escámez, who was present at the announcement, said that the club had obtained all the necessary permits and that the event will have public safety assured by the Policía Local.
Before touring the town and county, the machines, both veteran and more modern, will be on display on the Plaza de la Coronación. Whilst the Scooter-born hordes parade through the town, making small dogs swoon and young ladies bark, they will be escorted by the Policía Local.
The Councillor for Sports, Miguel Ángel Muñoz, said that the town would lend equipment for the event, such as a small marquee on Plaza de la Coronación where those interested in putting their own Mortifying Mod Machines forward for the event can attend Saturday morning.
Club Chairman, Manolo Gálvez, said that that scooter owners/enthusiasts, will be attending from as far afield as Málaga, Sevilla, Cádiz, Valencia, as well from Motril and surrounding towns.
So, the agenda is, Friday the 10th, a nighttime outing doing a tapa tour of the bars in Motril – prisoners will be taken and sold for gasoline – fair!
Saturday the 11th the scooters will be on display on the Plaza de la Coronación until 11.00h, from whence the swarm will do a tour of the town… I say swarm because that will be 200-odd scooters weaving their way through the town’s innocent streets, bless their cotton socks.
When they reach Puntalón the Guardia Civil will slash a few tyres and tweak a few nipples before taking over escort duty for a scooter outing to Lújar and Castell de Ferro, where the frenzied Vespa Vikings will tapa-out on sardines at Chiringuito Essencia before heading back to the beach area of Motril.
Saturday will end in Restaurante Katena for lunch, prize giving, live music and teary farewells until next year.
