Proposed Round-About Access

MOT Access JunctionThe independent Motril Councillor, David Martín, will propose a motion for the next Plenary Meeting concerning road-about access to the town.

The Town Council will meet on Tuesday the 16th to discuss getting the Ministry of Public Works to build a round about on the only access from the N-340 that doesn’t already have one; i.e., the western-most entrance; the one nearest to Salobreña.

At present, the road junction is subject to congestion in the summer months where traffic waiting to enter Motril tails back. The junction is in an area known as the Curva de la Plata.

Back in 2006, the PSOE put forward a project with a budget of 6m euros with a work execution timeframe of 18 months. The Sub-Delegate for the Central Government in 2008 said that it would be completed by the summer of 2009 – that was almost ten years ago.

The then Mayor in 2009, Carlos Rojas (PP), went even further and proposed twin-lane traffic between the projected round about and KM 01 (the eastern access to Motril) but nothing came of that, either.

Apart from Councillor Martin’s proposal for the round about, Andalucía Por Sí wants the Town Council to approach the Central Government to have the eastern-most roundabout access sorted out, which looks like Kew Gardens in its overgrown state.
