Country Lane Maintenance

ALM Strimming LanesAlmuñécar Town Hall has begun its spring offensive against roadside vegetation along country lanes within the municipality.

Teams are out with strimmers cutting back the encroaching vegetation, which if not dealt with now, will become a fire hazard as the summer heat dries it out.

The Councillor for Agriculture, Fran Alba, explained that work had started in El Zahonao and Cuesta del Mosco lanes in the Torrecuevas area.

By the time that this article is on the streets, work will have moved up to Gelibra, el Cerval and Cuesta Cordobilla and thence onto Peña Escrita, Rescate and Río Jate over on the La Herradura side.

Meanwhile, over to the west of Almuñécar access lanes, Cuesta de las Golondrinas and Loma del Gato (Taramay) will be dealt with.

Besides cutting back the grass and other vegetation from the roadsides, a general clean up of litter along the way will also be carried out.

With the recent spate of hillfires caused by the excessively dry winter, the importance of removing inflammable vegetation from the reach of irresponsibe drivers who discard cigarette butts is more than apparent.
