GRA Crashed MercedesOn the 22nd of January a driver ploughed into a lamppost and advertising panel in the centre of Granada and then staggered away.

He wasn’t staggering because of injuries but because he was five times over the limit, bless his cotton socks.

When the police arrived at the scene of accident, situated on the junction where Calle Marqués de la Ensenada meets the Camino de Ronda, it was to find a badly buckled Mercedes with nobody inside. Even as they were running a check on the vehicle’s owner, he phoned in to say that his car had been stolen.

Smelling a rat, they said that they coming around for a chat. Face to face with the police he soon confessed to having invented the theft, so they breathalysed him, which gave a naughty reading.

Apart from a possible 6-month, suspended sentence, he will lose his licence for one to four years and will have to pay for the damaged done to urban furniture; streetlight and the publicity panel.
