SPN Puppies Rescued from Well 01Fire personnel in Alguazas in Murcia managed to rescue five puppies that had been dropped down a well in a plastic bag.

A local had heard the yelping coming from the bottom of this iron-pipe, borehole and had alerted the police, who in turn contacted the fire service.

It was a very difficult operation with very little visibility in a confined space – the pipe had a diameter of 30cm – but the team managed to hook the bag and bring it up.

One of the puppies hadn’t survived the ordeal but the other five are alive and well and in need of a home. In the meantime, the police are trying to hunt down the culprit, who will face criminal charges if found.

Around 100,000 dogs and cats are abandoned each year in Spain, according to animal protection associations.
