A prisoner in an Asturias jail was found dead in his cell yesterday morning and was taken to the morgue pending a post mortem.
Trouble is, Gonzalo Montoya Jiménez wasn’t dead and neither was it a clever escape plan. He was on a table in the morgue awaiting an autopsy when they noticed that the sheet covering the body was moving – and that the ‘corpse’ was snoring.
He was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital where, although his condition is described as serious, doctors say he is recovering.
It’s not a case of a single doctor’s mistake, because three doctors certified that he was dead: the doctor on night duty, the prison doctor the next day, and then the coroner.
