The Motril firemen were called out on the 10th of September to tackle a fire in the Nacla area of town – that’s in the north of the municipality.
Around 3,500 hectares were affected, mostly wild cane, cuttings and even dumped rubbish. The fire also caused damage to five greenhouses in the area.
The fire was first reported at 18.46h and soon occuppied a wide front. The fire service had their work cut out for them thanks to the abundance of dry vegetation and considerable wind.
The Motril firemen used 21,000 litres of water to extinguish the fire. Eight firemen, three heavy fire trucks, backed by 32 firefighters from the anti-forest-fire organisation, Infoca, who brought two of their fire trucks as well.
Although the greenhouses were affected on the exterior, the flames didn’t reach inside.
It had been a very hectic Sunday as they were just coming back from helping with the fire in the Guajares at 18.00h when they were out again to tackle the fire in the Naclar.
