The Motril Taxi Strike

MOT Taxi Drivers in Town HallMotril taxi drivers, who have been on strike since Monday the 14th, are not pleased that the Councillor for Mobility does not deign to have a meeting with them.

They sought an appointment with Sra. Escámez but after waiting an hour and a half outside her office, to no avail, the councillor is unlikely to receive any Christmas cards from the 38 taxi drivers on strike.

The opposition party, IU, did not lose the opportunity to champion the strikers and fire a withering broadside at the councillor in a press release. The IU considers that the sector’s demands are reasonable and, if met, will improve the taxi service in Motril.

The strike, organized by both taxi associations in Motril, giving the strike total support across the sector, wants to see more effort to do away with unfair competition from unlicensed drivers working in the ‘black economy.’ They also want the main taxi rank moved to the new bus station, as well as a sheltered taxi stop on Avenida de Andalucía and one on Playa de Poniente, next to Hoyo 19.
