A mugger in Motril has been terrorising youngsters with a knife and relieving them of their mobile phones. However, now the Policía Nacional have arrested a suspect.
The mugger sometimes used two knives at the same time to intimidate his victims, most of whom were young adults or even minors, causing in some cases superficial wounds. Such was the anxiety caused in the town that some parents stopped their kids from going out.
The muggings took place during most of last month in public parks and on the streets, specially in the town centre. The police received many complaints from his victims. His modus operandi was to approach his victims with the excuse of asking them a question, when they were out walking alone.
The police were worried because each mugging was more violent than the last, so they increased patrols whilst at the same time carrying out investigations. Finally these investigations led to his identification and arrest.
The police believe that he has been responsible for at least eight muggings but they are continuing with their work to see if he was also behind other muggings.
