Dutch Driver Kills Cyclist

SPN Dutch Drink DriverThis time is was a Dutch citizen that collided with a cyclist and killed him. It happened on the same stretch of road as a previous incident resulting in five such deaths.

In both cases the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or both. On the said previous occasion, it was a women driver who was high on drugs and alcohol. She killed five cyclists.

The 28-year-old driver initially fled the scene of this latest accident but was later found, arrested and brought before a magistrate in Gandia (Valencia). His victim, a 32-year-old cyclist out on a morning ride.

So far, 25 cyclists that have been knocked down since January. In just one weekend, five cyclists were killed and four seriously injured.

So why this particular stretch of road, if it is straight with excellent visibility? It is because cyclists take to the road in the first hours of daylight on Sunday mornings to avoid the heat, which coincides with youngsters driving home after being out all night on the town.
