A 58-year-old man from Guadahortuna (Guadix) was hit by lightning and killed on the night of Sunday the 23rd around 20.45h.

Javier Torres was hit whilst on the road that links the town with the provincial capital. Apparently, he had stopped the car and got out to do something and was soon hit by the lightning bolt – he was killed instantly.

He was accompanied by his wife and daughters, who remained in the car. Javier had stopped to check the state of his almond trees because of the heavy rain – their had also been hailstones. He was cleaning the mud off his shoes when he was struck.
