The fact is that the last six fires on the vega of Salobreña have almost all occurred out on windy days – such a coincidence points towards intent on somebody’s part.

At least, that’s how the Town Hall and the police are taking it, which is why they have launched a thorough investigation into the fires to track down a possible pyromaniac.

Apart from the high-winds coincidence, there is also the question tight grouping of the fires, mostly between the river and the lower town, but not always.

The Mayor, Mª Eugenia Rufino Morales, admits that she’s worried by these cases of possible arson but feels easier now that the Captain of the Guardia Civil has opened an investigation.

The last fire started around at 13.30h on Thursday the 20th behind the Parque de la Fuente, the road had to be closed to traffic and 20 residents were evacuated from the nearby houses on Urbanización Mare Nostrum.

Fortunately, although some houses were slightly damaged, nobody was hurt, with the fire finally extinguished at 19.30h.
