Justified Homicide?

SPN Justified Homicide OnLDaniel took a shotgun to his father, Ángel Cortés Solana (68), who had been making his mother’s life, a misery for 40 years – he shot him whilst he slept.

To date, over 3,000 people have signed a petition organised by his sister, Lourdes Cortés, to save 38-year-old Daniel Cortés Caldera from going to jail.

The petition for clemency reads: “We are with him all the way, unconditionally. We ask for an acquittal, considering that the 38 years of continual suffering has been punishment enough for him and his family.”

The incident took place on the 20th of February on Calle Antonio Floriano Cumbreño in Cáceres, Extremadura.

The mother had never reported her husband for domestic violence but the daughter explained that her father had threatened to kill his wife and anybody else in the house if she ever did. The parents lived with the daughter and the son who shot the victim.

The trial is going to be before a jury, so there is a chance that this could be the outcome, although the judicial authorities would not like such a judicial outcome to become a precedent and trigger a spate of shotgun justice.
