Motril Arsonist Arrested

mot-torched-hoppers-onlThe municipal police in Motril have arrested a man suspected of having fired eleven rubbish hoppers in just one night – Monday the 9th January.

The Councillor in charge of Citizen Safety, María Ángeles Escámez, explained that the police were able to track him down after a long day of intensive investigation, using information from the Motril Fire Service and anonymous citizens.

She also praised the firemen for their “rapid and effective” actions in putting out the hoppers, which were spread around town on different streets.

The first one targeted was in the Parque de Los Telares, and then on Calle Santísimo, Calle Batalla de San Quintín, Calle San Antonio, which is next to the hospital, and Calle Melaza. The last one torched was on Calle Cortés de la Torre.

Councillor Sánchez-Cantalejo, who is in charge of the semi-public, municipal cleaning company, Limdeco, pointed out that each one of the hoppers cost over 1,000 euros and that the damage caused was a tremendous loss of public property, paid for by the citizens of Motril.
