The Motril Councillor for Parks and Gardens, Gloria Chica, has decried the recent acts of vandalism in the town centre on the night of the 22nd.
It appears that a person or persons had gone around ripping out the poinsettias from the flowerbeds and flower boxes and left them littered on the ground – the damage was discovered the next morning.
“They even threw the plants against shop windows and entrances,” she added.
Consequently she has called on residents both to keep an eye out in case the vandals should act again, as well as help look after the plants during the Christmas festivities.
Literally thousands of poinsettias have adorned the central streets and squares since the beginning of December thanks to the municipal nursery growing around 7,000 of them; 2,000 white ones and 5,000 red ones.
But it’s not only the plant decorations that have received the unwanted attention of vandals because the municipal cleaning company, LIMDECO, has reported that several hoppers have been torched.
