Work began on Thursday the 22nd with repair work to the fencing that keeps back rockfalls and prevents boulders plunging onto the road. It was precisely a very large boulder that damaged the fence on the 29th of November, ending up on the road surface.
The recent, prolonged rainfall has loosened large rocks, so heavy machinery is being employed to stabilize or remove them.
Whilst this work is going on, the westbound lane has been closed off with traffic being redirected along one of the up-lanes coming up from La Herradura – the one that ends at the Punta de la Mona junction.
By the time that this article is published in the hard-copy edition, the work should be concluded.
