Impressive Waterspout Sighted

spn-waterspout-onlWhilst here on the Costa Tropical we have been spoilt by ten days of steady, light rain, over in Valencia they had an impressive waterspout.

The Spanish term is tromba marina or manga marina and some of them, such as the one in the video, are quite spectacular. When they form out at sea, they normally peter out over land, and even if they do stay out at sea, they rarely last more than five minutes.

In this case the storm formed inland over the Serra de Corbera before moving north, reaching the beaches of Sueca. Once it reached the sea it started sucking up water, forming a spout.

The phenomenon is caused by storm clouds containing spiralling winds. Anyway, beats making sandcastles for beach entertainment…
