Monty the Mountain Goat

alm-online-mountain-goatThis is Monty, posing for a photograph on Peñon del Santo (rock with the cross on top) in Almuñécar, where he was spending a short break with a friend on Thursday 20th October .

Mountain goats (or Spanish Ibex) can be seen on a regular basis if one hangs around Cerro Gordo in La Herradura, but are very rarely seen in Almuñécar.

One passerby said that they do occasionally turn up in Almuñécar on the beach and usually at night, to get a ‘salt boost’… and as you could write my entire knowledge of the Spanish Ibex on the back of a matchbox, who am I to argue.

Anyway, Monty and his mate told me they would only be hanging around until nightfall, and would be eating most of the flora on the Peñon before heading off home.

No animals (horny or otherwise) were harmed during the writing of this article.
