A 38-year-old man was accidentally run over and killed by a police car after he tripped and fell in front of the vehicle.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday in Puerta de Sol, in the centre of Madrid.

According to the city’s emergency services, around 03.35h the man, who was celebrating his last night of bachelorhood; i.e., a stag night, tripped over and fell in front of the passing patrol car belonging to the Policia Nacional.

He suffered very serious injuries including a respiratory-cardiac arrest. The paramedics at the scene tried for over half an hour to revive him but to no avail.
