The leader of the PP opposition party in Motril has put into question certain aspects of the plan to turn the centre of Motril into a pedestrian zone.
For instance, Councillor Garcia Chamorra (the ex-Mayor) criticizes plans to have loading/unloading parking for trader vehicles restricted to 06.00h to 09.00h and then 14.00h to 17.00h. “What sort of time does the owner of a small business have to get up to coincide with these hours,” she asks.
However, Sra. Garcia reserves special criticism for the plan to eliminate all parking along Calle Nueva or Rambla de Capuchinos; in the case of the former, it will be in order to provide an extra lane in the same direction as the existing one.
She points out that the elimination of surface parking in the town centre; some 400 parking spaces, 200 of which are blue-zone-parking spaces, would mean that the lost blue-zone parking would have to be relocated to outlaying areas of Motril, such as La Fabriquilla or La Huerta de la Condesa, which are free-parking areas at the moment.
As if that were not enough, the hostelry-sector people that use the municipal market are not going to be happy bunnies if the parking in Plaza de Tenería is eliminated.
