Almuñécar Hiper Progress

alm-hiperThe Russian businessmen behind the Hiper project have got things moving again after more than a year with the project lying dead in the water.

Work on this large building on the Puerta del Mar beach road, which used to house Almuñécar’s first supermarket, suffered financial problems, as well as administrative ones over environmental issues.

When the project was first presented at the Departamento de Urbanismo at the Almuñécar Town Hall, there were no objections, however when the project was then registered at the Registro de la Propiedad that it came to light that the building had issues with the new Ley de Costas, which came into force in 2013.

The registry insisted that they needed authorisation from Costas confirming that the building was in line with the new law. To obtain this, the company was forced to demolish a small part of the structure, as well as other modifications.

Now it seems that the go ahead is in the pipeline and with the completion of the major building work, the deeds will be presented again at the Land Registry. Once that it is done, a timetable can be set up for the completion of the remaining interior work, etc.

So, what will it be and what will it look like? First of all, there will be a large restaurant occupying half of the ground floor, with the name, Restaurante Gourmet.

There will also be an events hall for parties and banquets, etc, which will be totally sound-proofed and situated on the first floor. There will also be a chill-out terrace with panoramic views.

Apparently, there is another company interested in leasing the other half of the ground floor in order to set up a nightclub – these possible leaseholders will have to make sure that it is completely sound proofed, as well.

If everything goes according to plan, we’re looking at the beginning of next year’s tourist season for the inauguration.

What could get in the way? Well, the original financial problems were triggered by currency fluctuations concerning the Ruble against the Euro – something that has eased off, but there is no guarantee that the Ruble will not plummet again. So currency fluctuation and unforeseen urban-development hitches apart, Almuñécar will soon be able to count on another tourist attraction and gastronomic asset.
