Things appear to be finally moving concerning the Almuñécar fish & veg market and the closed car park beneath it.
The Mayor, Trinidad Herrera, has announced that before the year is out the stall holders will all be moved to a temporary structure in the P-4; namely, where the Friday and Sunday markets are held, the Plaza Blas Infante.
This is so that work on the demolition and reconstruction can commence shortly after the New Year 2017… if things go to plan.
So seriously is she taking it that she has earmarked 350,000 euros from the 2016 Budget to cover the transfer of the market to the P-4 and the construction of the temporary premises. A further 350,000 euro from the 2017 Budget will go to the same ends, giving a total of 700,000 just for the temporary structure.
The actual demolition and construction of the new market in the old location will be financed through the leasing of the underground car park. In other words, which ever private company takes on the lease of the car park, they have to build it first, together with the market building above it.
She says that the concession terms will be ‘”favourable” to entice such a ‘benefactor.’
The opposition parties, on the other hand, really don’t think that there is anybody out there willing or able to take on such an expenditure.
Oh, and the Central Government has also promised to give Almuñécar 14,000 euros to finance a viability study on the new building….
