Productivity Bonus Controversy

MOT Town Hall OnLThere’s a big fuss at the Motril Town Hall over around a dozen staff receiving between 400 and 5,000 euros in production bonuses. This all started in July last year.

The Mayor, Flor Almón, says its “absolutely legal, and what’s more, it normal practice,” but none of the opposition parties share her view.

To give one example, the chess monitor within the Sports Department received 2,500 euros in one go in July 2015 as payment for “extraordinary services.” Yet the same worker gets another 2,500 euros for the same reason just three months later. And then, that December there’s another 4,000 euros for productivity – these sums amount to triple the person’s normal per-annum salary.

But it doesn’t finish there because the same monitor gets another productivity bonus in March 2016 for 5,000 euros. In fact, this worker received 14,000 euros in just nine months… over an above his salary.

The Vice-Mayor, Francisco Cantalejo, explains this ‘generosity’ by stating that the monitor is actually the de facto head of the Sports Department of the Town Hall and bears the full weight of this responsibility on his shoulders.

Anyway, there’s something for you to chew over in the meantime as the affair escalates – more at a later date.
