Eight stand trial over an Almuñécar bar fight, which started because one of the people involved had decided to try to enter the bar with a drink in his hand from another bar.
The Public Prosecutor is recommending between a 400-euro fine and seven years’ imprisonment, depending on the individual.
The accused are: Joaquín G.F. (28); Rafael A.G.F. (27); Jesús A.B.(27); Francisco J.C.M. (34); Rubén G.P. (29); Fidel L.R. (30); José I.C.M. (41); and Juan M.C.M. (33).
The first two are facing the 7-year prison sentence for grievous bodily harm. The third (Jesus) faces two years for the same offence whilst the rest of them are facing economic sanctions of between 400 euros and 3,600 euros damages, actual bodily harm or threatening behaviour.
The incident took place on the 4th of August, 2012 when, around four in the morning, Rafael A.G.F. tried to walk into Café Copas Torero under the Paseo Altillo with a drink that he had bought in another bar – the doorman was not impressed.
When the doorman told him to bugger off, a heated argument ensued between the proprietor and the said would-be customer. The customer marched off only to return with six friends
At this point it went ballistic, thanks to Rafael A.G.F. hitting the proprietor in the face with a bottle – fortunately the bottle was intact. A brawl broke out with the bar owner receiving more blows with a bottle and pub furniture being broken
When things quietened down a bit and the walking wounded made there way to the Centre de Salud, the brother of the proprietor, Juan M.C.M. threatened Francisco J.C.M and Joaquín G.F., telling them, “If anything happens to my brother, I’ll kill you both, one after the other.”
There is a list of the injuries suffered, but we won’t go into that, but it is worth mentioning that one of the accused died in February 2013, from a totally unrelated cause of death.
