A priest in Motril reportedly tried to knock over the editor of a Semana-Santa magazine, leading to a crossfire of ‘denuncias’ between them.
“The holy-week magazine editor, F.R.M., explained that the incident had taken place just after noon as he was making his way to the Virgen de la Cabeza church on the hill. He said that when he got there he bumped into a tourist guide accompanied by a large group of tourists.
The tourists were in the middle of an argument with the priest, whom they were recriminating over his attitude, after he had thrown them out of the church because he was about to hold a religious service.
Whilst the editor was speaking with another person outside the church, he saw the priest get into a vehicle. According to the editor, the priest put the car into reverse and accelerate towards him, leaving no other option but to jump over a wall to avoid being hit.
The editor shouted at him, asking him if he had not seen him standing there, to which the priest replied – according to the editor – “I should have got you, you son of a bitch.”
The priest, J.B.A., on the other hand, although expressing his rejection of the editor’s account, published in the regional daily, said that although he had also filed a complaint against the editor, he said that he would not be making any comments to the press but would wait until the case comes before the judge where the truth would become known.
There appears to have been quite a bit of friction between the two men ever since the editor ran an article on cases of alleged sexual abuse carried out in Salobreña and Motril connected with the local clergy.
