The Mayor of Salobreña, Mª Eugenia Rufino Morales, is not a happy bunny over the recent fire, caused by an electricity pylon.
The fire, which broke out yesterday night near the river mouth, appears to have been caused by a high-tension cable sparking in the gusting wind.
“This could have been avoided because during the whole of the afternoon the municipal police were onto the electricity company warning them of the danger,” pointed out the miffed mayor.
She went on to say that the feared fire finally broke out around ten at night and could have easily wrought havoc with the boat park. As it was, several craft had to be moved out of the way from approaching fire, just in case.
In fact, the order was nearly given to evacuate nearby housing. The fire was finally declared out around two the next morning.
The Mayor is annoyed that Sevilla/Endesa didn’t react, not even by cutting off the power from that line.
Bearing all this in mind, the Mayor has instructed the municipal legal department to look into taking legal action against the company.
