Almuñécar Wind Damage

ALM Storm Damage OnLWell, we’ve got our winter at last, and with a vengeance because the high winds have caused damage around the town.

The public gardens have had trees toppled and so have some streets. Locals have lost TV aerials, Persian blinds and awnings.

The Town Hall maintenance crews have been busy along Avenida Costa del Sol, where a large palm tree came down, as well as the gardened area in front of Albayzín del Mar where they had to pick up the piecces of shattered shrubbery!

Meanwhile, down the other end of town, Taramay and El Pozuelo there have been broken branches from the Eucalyptus trees.

The Almuñécar firemen have been busy lads, too, as a high-tension cable came down in the Torrecuevas, which apart from being a dangerous obstacle, also caused power outages.

The firemen’s task was to tape off the area until the utility company sent out a crew to sort it all out.

Finally, the winds have played havoc with the subtropical fruits: avocados and nisperas. No need to pick the former as they are all on the ground and the nisperas, renowned for being finicky at the best of times, are in a serious sulk.

So, there you have it; winter arrives at last!
