The Salobreña governing party will propose carrying out renovations on the municipal market building at the next Plenary Meeting. Interestingly, included within the project is the creation of parking space under the building.
The project is also designed to take the shortest time in execution in order to affect stall holders as little as possible.
The next Plenary Meeting is tomorrow, the 22nd of December.
The municipal market was built in 1996 but since then health laws have changed, which is why quite a few changes are needed; for example, a non-slip floor.
The projected underground car park will have space for 32 vehicles.
Also included within the ‘new look’ are new toilets, so that customers and stall holders can have different bathroom facilities, as well as making the roof higher for better ventilation to counter summer temperatures.
So how much will it cost and who’s paying for it? Well, the budget is 288,000 euros with a 45-day job duration target. The funds will come from the Patrimonio Municipal de Suelo; i.e., municipal funds.
It’s worth noting that such is the emphasis on getting it done as soon as possible, when the job is put up for tender, quotes will be judged on alacrity rather than price. With the same idea in mind, delays to the completion date will be economically penalized.
Finally, again with the idea as causing the least amount of disruption as possible, the work will be divided into two phases: work will begin on the above ground part first whilst the underground car park will belong to phase two, which should not affect the running of the market above.
The start date was originally planned for the 7th of January but owing to changes in the project details, it won’t begin now until the end of February.
Editorial comment: when one compares the idiotic political stupidity behind the Almuñecar municipal-market/car park situation, one can only wish that we had the common sense Salobreñeros in charge here.
