The Almuñécar Town Hall has declared an emergency over the Urbanización Carmenes del Mar, Cerro Gordo, instability problem.
Based on reports by the municipal engineer on the state of the said housing, the decision was made in a Town Council meeting on November 20th.
Accordingly, the decision was passed on to the Policía Local, the Servicio Prevención y Extinción de Incendios y Salvamento as well as Protección Civil.
The Town Hall has also requested support from the Junta and the Central Government, as the situation lies within the public safety area and thus is the responsibility of the regional and national administrations.
Furthermore, the Mayor has asked the municipal police to go around and find out the situation of each affected family; their accommodation needs and pass the information on to the Municipal Social Services to carry out “necessary interventions.”
Also, the Mayor has requested of the Provincial Council the use of the Turismo Tropical installations as temporary accommodation for evicted families from the Urbanizaciones de Cármenes del Mar”.
Finally, with respect to the Municipal Engineers report, part of the necessary stabilization work and its cost; i.e., the ripping up and replacing of the pavement, signposting, etc, etc, will cost a total of 20,732 euros, plus IVA. The Town Hall is now in the process of allocating the contract for it to go ahead.
