SPN 20-euro notes OnLThe new 20-euro notes will come into circulation on the 25th of next month.

Their pending arrival was announced by the ECB Head, Mr Dragi, this February past, thus giving banknote equipment manufacturers nine months to adapt to the new banknote.

Euro banknotes are used by 338 million people in 19 countries and the 20-euro note is the most used one, especially in cash dispensing machines (ATM’s), and the total face value of all the notes in circulation is 1,000 billion euros.

What’s new about this new 20-euro note is the ‘portrait window’ feature, adding more security to counter forgeries. This feature is set with a hologram so that when you tilt the note, you can see the figure of the mythological figure Europa. This figure can be seen from both sides of the the banknote.

The 20-euro note, like the new €5 and €10 notes, includes an ’emerald number’ and a portrait of Europa in the watermark, as well.

This new 20-euro note is the third Europa-series one to appear to replace the original designs: the 5-euro one was issued in May 2013, the 10-euro one in September 2014. The new 50, 100, 200 and 500-euro ones will follow.
