A total of 34 people have been arrested as members of a drug ring with ‘tentacles’ in Salobreña, Almuñecar and Motril, amongst other Costa Tropical towns.

Those arrested are mostly Spaniards, several North Africans (Maghreb) and two from Eastern Europe.

The drug ring was run by a family with contacts all along the Costa Tropical, including Ítrabo and Mólvizar from whom they acquired the ‘goods,’ before passing it onto other individuals for transportation to other European countries, in particular the UK.

The police operation, which began several months back, is headed up by the Grupo de Estupefacientes at the Motril Policia Nacional station. The investigation soon turned up that several small-time drug pushers were apparently working together in the same set up. It didn’t take long for the police to work out the complete structure of the drug ring; who handled each task in the set up, etc.

The arrests began in June with six individuals, then a further nine in July and then 19 during August.
