The Guardia Civil have arrested a British resident in Órgiva; a 52-year woman, for allegedly sending postal packages containing drugs back to the UK.

The woman reportedly used the postal system to send marijuana to several UK addresses – at least five packages in total were sent from the Órgiva and Almuñécar Post Offices.

The first package was intercepted in the Central Post Office in Granada back in February, after it went through routine scanning. The central office alerted the Guardia Civil post in Órgiva, the town of origin.

The police were authorized by the judicial authorities to open the package and found 54g of marijuana.

In June, another package was intercepted with 50g inside. However, in both cases both the names of the sender and receiver were false, but the police investigation persisted, finally uncovering the identity of the sender and that she had reportedly sent three other packages in the meantime from the Almuñécar P.O.

After her arrest the police searched her home and found a further 2.7k of the drug, two cannabis sativa plants as well as items for preparing the packages.
