Fifteen years ago this girl went missing in Motril – nothing has been heard of her since. The parents have done everything they can to keep the case alive, but is this the end?
The parents are now asking that Maria Teresa Fernandez be officially declared dead. Why? So that the inheritance for their surviving offspring will not be hampered by her state as ‘missing person.’
They have fought for years, pushing the police to follow up all leads, however unlikely, to prevent the case being shelved. They have travelled and campaigned, knocking on countless doors, always with a glimmer of hope that Teresa would be found, or at the very least to know, once and for all, that Teresa was dead with the discovery of her body.
But fifteen years is a long time and as well as having two other daughters, neither of the parents is getting any younger. In fact, the mother suffered a stroke about a year ago.
So they decided to act, not because they had given up hope, but because if something happened to either of them, then their two surviving daughters could not receive their inheritance without the consent of Teresa.
Editorial comment: Somebody, somewhere, knows what happened to Teresa; where she is living or where her body can be found. If they didn’t take pity on the girl, they could at least take pity on her parents.
