The Centro Cívico in La Herradura was the venue of scientific minds at the beginning of the month to celebrate 25 years of this annual get-together.
We’re talking about the Granada event, Granada Seminar – Physics Meets the Social Sciences
, which deals with the advances, expectations and challenges on the frontier of Science and Physics.
The gathering was sponsored by the European Physical Society (EPS) the American Physical Society (APS) and the Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire (CECAM). This sort of Brain Attack has been going on since 1990, thanks to Granada University and the Instituto Carlos I de Física Teórica y Computacional.
The host professor, Professor Marro from the University of Granada, is a resident in the village.
But it’s not just about Science and Physics because, Sociologists, Economists, Biologists and Mathematicians (applied) were also invited, all to debate over the consequences of cooperation between living beings, but they bees, fishes, birds, wolves, humans, businesses or even countries.
Well, that kept them busy the best part of a week, as did throwing-balls-of-screwed-up-paper-into-litterbins, which was unofficial of course. Nah, just joking!
Anyway, take a look at this list and marvel at the attraction that little ol’ La Herradura has; these countries sent representatives from their universities and laboratories: Israel, USA, Russia, UK, Spain, France, Poland, New Zealand, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Denmark, Japan, Hungary, Sweden, Iran, Portugal, Estonia and Norway.
