Work has begun to repair the storm damage caused in January to the Salobreña seafront paseo.
And it’s not just a case of patching up what remains, but instead a complete overhaul of the eastern end of the paseo.
That’s the good news; the bad news is that that end of the road will be closed to traffic and parking, so we’re talking about from the entrance to Salomar 2000 to the end of the beach road.
It appears that the road, for vehicle use at least, will disappear forever and be destined for pedestrian transit, with the beach being widened to occupy where the road presently stands.
The roads that run between the blocks, connecting them to the inner road, will end in small roundabouts, which will be connected by “a service lane.”
Therefore the Paseo Marítimo will lose all the parking down that end; i.e., 120 parking places, more or less. Should be fun in summer!
Funds for coastal repairs reach 870,000 euros, of which 302,000 correspond to Salobreña.
Repair work is also being carried out in Almuñécar, Castell de Ferro and La Rábita. All work along the coast is hoped to be completed in the first days of June.
Editorial comment: What is it about politicians that they love destroying parking space?
