The Mayor of Almuñécar has responded to mounting criticism over the proposed Paseo del Altillo works and to the accusations of electoral motivation.
In a press release she assures that the motivation behind the project is purely the social and economic interests of the municipality. In fact, she emphasizes that this is the case behind each one of the many public works around the municipality during her term of office.
“The common denominator,” says Mayor Trinidad Herrera, is “the overwhelming necessity to make good the historic infrastructure problems, which have led to work being carried out all over the town.”
These words come in response to the criticism levied by the two major opposition parties over the sagacity of carrying out the proposed Paseo del Altillo work, aimed at introducing 2-way traffic between El Peñon del Santo (cross on the rock) and the paseo itself.
She flatly denies that the varied public works underway are for “electoral or partisan interest.”
She expressed irritation that one of the parties that is criticising the work on the Altillo is precisely the party which carried out the construction of the Paseo del Altillo and other public structures, which have led to the “urban shambles” that has needed sorting out.
Although she did not mention Juan Carlos Benavides by name, her message was clear, just as it was that she was including the municipal aquarium and market when she referred to “urban shambles.”
The press released includes a photograph (which accompanies this article) of the damp problems in the Altillo underground car park caused by the poor drainage of the surface flower beds.
San Sebastian traffic flow
She also spoke of a plan to reverse traffic along Calle Molvízar, which runs parallel to the N-340 on the San Sebastian side, so that lorries do not trundle up Callé Trapiche to reach the Otívar road.
