Storm Damage Estimated at 700,000 euros

SAL storm damage OnLThe storm damage caused along the Costa Tropical, especially Almuñécar, Salobreña and La Rábita, has been provisionally estimated at 700,000 euros by inspectors from Costas.

Just the damage caused in Almuñécar and Salobreña adds up to half a million euros.

Breaking it down further, the damage done to the paseo in Salobreña opposite Salomar 2000, together with the physical loss of beach sand that needs to be replaced, will cost a quarter of a million.

In Almuñécar, the western end of Playa Velilla has been eaten away, leaving one chiringuito perched on a sand ledge.

On the opposite side of the aqua park, the sea defence structure made up of large boulders has had a gap torn in it measuring some eight metres wide.

So, taking into account the beach loss on Playa Velilla and the damage done to the stone sea defences along El Paseo de Reina Sofía, we’re looking at around 200,000 euros.

As far as La Rábita goes, down towards the Almería provincial border, there isn’t much information to be had as to what damage as been suffered, other than that there has been enough to require help from the provincial authorities to right it.
