A biker managed avoid a fine of 200 euros and four points off his licence, thanks to a GPS installed in his motorbike. Simply put, the judge preferred to believe this device than the version of the Granada policia local.
The biker managed to provide a document drawn up by an expert that places him elsewhere to where the traffic infraction occurred.
In the centre of Granada, where Avenida Divina Pastora meets Avenida de la Constitución there are a set of traffic lights. According to two policemen they plainly saw the biker jump a traffic light in red.
Trouble was, the said policemen were not even on Avenida Divina Pastor, so in the judge’s estimation it was not possible for them to see that the lights were in red, despite their categorical claim that they plainly saw the biker jump a red light.
Having concluded that the policemen’s statement was “not altogether accurate,” the judge preferred to base his findings on the expert’s report and the GPS system, which although he considered was not “infallible,” it did indicate that the biker was not even on the said avenue, therefore could not have jumped the red light.
