Crystallography Exhibition in Motril

MOT Crystallography ExhibitionThe Fundación Descubre in Motril has put on an exhibition entitled, Cristales, Un Mundo por Descubrir in Motril

This, Glass, A World for Discovering will be set up in the Centro Joven Municipal (Parque de las Americas) to celebrate International Year of Crystallography. In July 2012, the United Nations recognised the importance this science and designated 2014 as its year.

The exhibition, which will count on internationally recognized experts, will run from now until the 13th of December and will comprised of interactive displays on 14 different panels and information boards mounted on geometric figures.

Crystallography has been at the forefront of technological advances, influencing pharmacology, food production, biology, electronic apparatuses and the creation of synthetic materials. An indication of its weight in the scientific world is that 28 Nobel Prizes for Science have been in the field of Crystallography.

Indeed, Mankind’s fascination for crystal goes back 1.8m years to when Homo Viagrus… sorry, I mean Erectus, fascinated by the translucence of quartz, began collecting it.
