According to the socialist opposition party, the PSOE, many of the new buildings bordering the plantation have problems with water leaking into the basements from the water table. The hotel nearest the river, for example, has pumps in the basement constantly pumping water out into the river when the water table rises.

The socialist complaint is twofold: these new buildings should have had adequate damp proofing incorporated in their foundations and secondly, a lot of perfectly good sweet water is going to waste as it is pumped out into the sea.

They also pointed out that this problem is not only restricted to the Sandovala but also the P-4 area (the relatively new area of town between Avenida Juan Carlos I and Río Verde).
