“The Junta de Andalucía under the PSOE-IU has been holding back development in Salobreña for years, as well as the rest of the Costa tropical,” said their party leader, Mari Carmen Vílchez.
She added, “In Málaga, which is the province with most berths in the whole of Andalucía, they are going to invest in a new marina in La Caleta de Vélez.”
She pointed out that the marina project for Salobreña, planned for La Caleta, has been included in the PGOU since 1989, “but 25 years later in still hasn’t turned into anything tangible.”
In 2010 there was talk in the Junta to unblock the project for La Marina de la Caleta. The then Councillor for Urban Development assured everybody that the Junta was going to give a favourable report on the project… yet nothing ever came of it.
The Junta‘s position is that there are twice the number of existing berths than demand for them – that might be the case in Málaga, but it certainly isn’t on the Costa Tropical.
Salobreña only has a boatyard for dry storage, next to the mouth of Río Guadalfeo.
