Los Tablones Fiestas

las fiestas de los tablones 2014Hundreds of locals and visitors turned out for the village fiestas in Los Tablones in honour of San Antonio de Padua on the 5th, 6th & 7th of September.

The festival lights were switched on and Mrs López on the bicycle generator single handedly kept them glowing most of the night… just joking!

Los Tablones was the last of the municipal annexes; i.e., municipal dependencies under Motril, to hold its annual fiestas for this year.

The fiesta kicked off on Friday the 5th with the lighting up ceremony, followed by a dance performance by the dancing academy Las Angustias, followed by live music by the dance band, Mélodi, finishing the night off with the election of the Queen of the Fiestas and generator jockey for the next day.

Saturday afternoon saw games activities, such as a sack race, followed in the evening by more live dance music and then, in the early hours, hot chocolate with ‘churros.’

Sunday, naturally had a more religious tone, with a mass held in honour of the patron saint, followed a bloody great paella. At seven in the evening the procession began through the streets… which couldn’t have taken long, could it?

The fiestas were brought to a close with a brief but spectacular firework display.
