A 46-year-old British man was caught by the Guardia Civil with 64 kilos of marihuana in the boot of his car.

The police had set up a routine road check on the A-92 as it passes through the municipality of Baza. They had pulled over the Ford Galaxy with Spanish plates for a cursory glance but noticed that the driver was more jittery than a turkey at Christmas, so they decided to take a look inside the boot.

They were jubilant to find 257 transparent bags containing vacuum-packed marihuana weighing a combined 64 kilos.

The Brit was invited to accompany them to the Guardia Civil post in Baza and his rented car was impounded, together with three mobile phones and a respectable amount of cash.
