Nazarí Remains found during Castle Work

SAL Castle visit OnLThe excavation/restoration work that is being carried out in Salobreña Castle has turned up archeological remains from the Nazari period.

The Mayor, Gonzalo Fernández Pulido, together with a bigwig from the Junta, went around to the site to inspect the find.

Now, it’s hardly surprising that remains from that epoch and culture should be found there because the castle basically is a Nazari monument, but all the same, any new discovery is always interesting.

The excavation work, which began about two months ago, is now in its final stages. But all this activity is actually adding to visitors’ interest in the castle so that all the banging and digging around has become a tourist attraction in itself.

Outstanding work to be carried out is the very necessary task of repairing the cracks in the walls and stabilizing one of the towers.

On the downside, the huge construction crane sticking out of the castle doesn’t lend much medieval atmosphere to the whole scene, but such cranes are hardly something you rarely see in Spain, are they.
